PanchKhapan Hydropower Pvt. Ltd has obtained the survey and study license of Lower HewaKhola-A Hydropower Project from the Department of Electricity Development (DoED), and then Ministry of Water Resources of Government of Nepal in 2015.
After the completion of a detailed feasibility study, the company intends to implement this project. Lower HewaKhola-A Hydropower Project is located in Sankhuwasabha District of Koshi Zone in the Eastern Region of Nepal. The project site is only about 10 km north-west from Chainpur Bazaar located along the Koshi Highway.
The project is located close to the existing gravel road and is proposed on the HewaKhola, which has a permanent source of flow from the Himalayas. The project will be a (PROR) scheme having an installed capacity of 6.9 MW.
This study has scrutinized the regional and project area topography, geology, hydrology, and designed suitable structures. Based on the analysis, project costs and the resulting financial indicators have been obtained, leading to the following conclusions:
After optimization of the plant, the installed capacity of the project shall be 6.9 MW, with 2 x 3.45 MW generating units driven by horizontal axis Francis turbines. The project has a net head of 192 meters.
The project is technically viable, having a good head works location with surface settling basins, headrace pipe, surge tank, and penstock in stable geology. The penstock pipe is exposed but accessible by road.
About 3.8 km long single circuit 33 KV transmission line is necessary to evacuate the power generated from this project to the Integrated Nepal Power System at the existing Baneswor sub-station at Sankhuwasabha near Chainpur Bazar.
